Living Medieval History Re-enactment by Cwmwd Ial

Destination Montgomery presents Living Medieval History Re-enactment by @[364328330373887:274:Cwmwd Ial Re-enactment] to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the Treaty of Montgomery

FREE admission

There will be a medieval encampment based at Montgomery Castle! The camp will allow visitors to learn about life in the 13th century and to see clothing, food and weaponry from the period. Children will have the opportunity to dress up and handle weapons safely, and there will be some mock tourneys and skirmishes. The day should be a great deal of fun for everyone!

The Treaty of Montgomery was signed on 29th September 1267 between King Henry III of England and Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, leader of the Welsh lords. They met at Rhydwhyman Ford in Caerhowell, which was at the time a key crossing point of the Severn. The Treaty they signed recognised Llywelyn as the Prince of Wales, giving him territories in Wales and England. In return, he swore loyalty to Henry. The signing represented the first ... See more

High Speed Camera Test

When I purchased one of my Fuji cameras a few years ago I tested it's high speed mode - at 490 frames per second !! Here is the short video I created.. It's called ' WHEN MILKDROPS DANCE' and features white milk drops dropping into black tea revealing a world that we seldom notice. Not exactly Montgomery focused but I hope you like the result 🙂

Amazing Night in the Dragon Hotel Montgomery
====================================
'Vojta' - Violinist and MUCH more !!

We strolled down to the Dragon Hotel here in Montgomery and listened tp a live session by 'Vojta' a very talented musician from the Czech Republic. His music is gradually built up in layers by live recording 'loops' from his various instruments and grows into the most wonderfully mesmeric melodies I've ever heard. So evocative and wonderful. Here is his first 'live' video recordings taken just over a year ago in the UK... Very special indeed !
https://www.facebook.com/vojta.violinist/videos/1757275794541971/

Check out my very first live video! Two weeks ago I found myself in the beautiful English city of Brighton!! Since I've been here I've been busking and gigging non stop, doing what I love. I've made some awesome new friends one of whom offered me the chance to record my first live performance! Hope you guys enjoy it, would love to hear what you think 🙂

Special thanks to Ren for recording and producing this video.

' The Flying Frenchman ' - Amazing control of 12 horses

This is really amazing !!!!
===================
' The Flying Frenchman - Lorenzo International '
Just 1.5 hours travel yesterday out from Montgomery took us to the 'Royal Welsh Show' at Buith Wells in Powys, Wales where we saw this totally awe inspiring main field display. The 'Flying Frenchman' stood and balanced unattached, on 2 horses and commanded a total of 12 horses in a fantastic routine of co-ordination the likes of which I have never seen before. Totally beautiful and spell binding ! Unfortunately I did not have my camcorder or camera.. but this video compilation, shot in Europe, shows the routine that we witnessed. Totally mind-blowing indeed 🙂 Enjoy !!!

Atop St. Nicholas Bell Tower - July 2017

I was privileged to be asked by our councillor, Stephen Hayes to be a steward on the bell tower roof during today's open day at St. Nicholas church here in Montgomery. Between tour groups visiting the Bell tower roof I managed to get some wide angle, 'Panoramic' views out across the town, it's wonderful castle and surrounding Wales/England border region.

Caffyns Rolls Royce sill plate presentation
==================================
Cloverlands Model Car Museum played host to a very special presentation this week, as John Weston-Smith presented a rare and valuable Rolls Royce sill plate to museum patron, Gillian Rogers.

After a pleasurable visit to Cloverlands on May Day, John Weston-Smith returned straight home to read “Driving through the decades” by Gillian and Valerie Rogers. He was struck by how many places and experiences were shared between his own lifelong car enthusiasm and Gillian’s. “Gillian has visited and taken part in lots of events at places which I knew well as I also lived in Kent and Sussex through the ‘60s and ‘70s.”

“One thing I noticed is that Gillian worked at one time at Caffyns, a long-established dealer in the South East. In fact my first Rolls Royce was a Silver Wraith which had originally been sold by Caffyns in Eastbourne. Although when new it was not itself fitted with dealer metal cill ... See more

Last night I spent a few hours watching the setting sun illuminate the rear side of Montgomery Castle and practised a technique that I love using that adds drama and interest to a photo - The Art of 'Framing' - To capture near, far .. and very far sections of the scene being photographed. Everyone can use this to improve their photographs.. AND it's fun too 🙂

Rock Mill, Abermule - NGS open day

We visited Rock Mill, a private garden opened for visitors over the weekend near Abermule Wales under the NGS (National Garden Scheme). It's only 5 miles from Montgomery and occupies land on either side of the river Mule with extensive gardens, 2 stone bridges and river side wooded walks. The private gardens are a wonder to explore. Tea and Cakes were available during our visit and the views in the steep enclosed valley were exceptional. A truly lovely place and highly recommended to visit next time it is opened up to the public.

Tonight's fabulous sunset at 9pm. A thunderstorm was in progress to our East over Corndon Hills while the sun shone bright from the West. The contrast on the edge of the storm front was really impressive as the sunset shone onto clouds over Welshpool. The camera struggled to capture its full Majesty !!!

Alien 'Tree Lizard' found near Montgomery !!

A brave farmer has clearly been attacking this 7 metre monster on the skyline just outside Montgomery with a chain saw but has so far failed to completely fell the beast.

The natural tree monster was clearly visible as you drove out of Montgomery towards Church Stoke a few days ago.

Thanks to Bruce Lawson for spotting this one.
