Friday 5th - Sunday 7th October 2018

Panoramic walks through historic Montgomery upland and lowland countryside, rich in Welsh and English history, running alongside the Offa’s Dyke National Trail and Severn Valley.

Montgomery Canal wildlife walk - Friday 6th October. Start: 1pm

6 miles - Easy level walk on canal towpath. 

Combine a walk along the Montgomery Canal with some wildlife spotting. A wildlife expert will accompany the walkers to explain the flora and fauna of the canal (a European reserve) and the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust Reserves along the way. Country bus services will be used to access the start and finish of the walk.

Ancient Ffridd Hill and Fort - Friday 5th October 2018. Start: 2pm

2.5 miles/4km - Moderate with one steep ascent. Almost all Woodland & field paths. 

Start the Festival with a stroll through Fridd Hill beech woods and undulating fields surrounding Montgomery. Lovely hilltop views of an ancient hillfort built to protect the nearby River Severn shallow ford crossing, Montgomery castle and the surrounding Welsh hills and Severn Valley.

Woodland and field paths and a short stretch of very quiet country lane.

No booking required -just turn up and go, ending up back at Monty's Brewery visitor centre - to sample their famous Oktoberfest beer selection if you wish.

The Rolling Marches  - Friday 6th October. Start: 2pm

5 miles - Moderate with one steep ascent. Almost all field paths. 

Explore the rolling hills around Montgomery and visit an Iron Age Fort and the Montgomeryshire War Memorial Hill with stupendous 360 degree views over the Marches landscape.

Hills, Vales and Trails Challenge Walk

Saturday 7th October. Start: 8.30am

22 miles. Tough with one steep climb and one gradual ascent. No 'scrambling'. All field paths except for 3 miles of canal towpath and a total of 3 miles of small sections of extremely quiet country lane. 

Experience Offa's Dyke National Trail , Kerry Ridgeway Path, and the Severn Way together with intimate local paths. The views all along the way are magnificent and we will have two light refreshment stalls along the way!

Offa's Dyke and Kerry Hills  - Saturday 7th October. Start :  10.00am

13 miles Moderate with two gradual ascents. Mostly field paths with about 2 miles total of short lengths of extremely quiet country lane. 
Explore the internationally important Offa's Dyke and the beautiful foothills of the Kerry Ridgeway. The views of Wales and England are superb.

Historic Montgomery - Saturday 7th October. Start: 10.30am

4 miles. Some uphill walking.

View the strategic positioning of Montgomery from the beautiful Lymore parkland, walk a stretch of Offa's Dyke and then explore the fascinating town and castle with a knowledgeable local guide.

Cross Offa - Sunday 8th October. Start: 10.30am

8.5 miles Moderate with little ascent.

Nearly all field paths with less than one mile on an extremely quiet country lane. 

Dare to cross Offa's Dyke into England , explore a valley carved out by glacial melt water, and experience lovely views of hills and Montgomery throughout the walk.

Treasures for All - Sunday 8th October.  Start: 11.00am

1 mile approx - mainly level easy going 

For families. Combine a stroll around Lymore Estate adjacent to the town with a treasure hunt for children.

Places are limited on all walks and MUST be reserved. Book early to reserve your place - there is no charge for the walks. Your details will be used only to confirm your booking and to provide you with further information regarding your chosen walks.

Unfortunately, due to the livestock based farmland these walks go through walkers will not be able to take their dogs on the walks. However dogs are welcome in the town shops, cafes and Hotel plus most of the listed accommodation too.

Old Bell Museum: - Open Saturday and Sunday.

A fascinating historical collection with a special display commemorating the 750th anniversary of the Treaty of Montgomery. Open Saturday and Sunday. Small entry charge.

Cloverlands Model Car Museum:  Open Friday /Saturday / Sunday 

A collection of over 3500 model cars including specialist hand made and reproduction models.  See more about their fantastic collection on their website here...  Cloverlands Model Car Museum 

Montgomery's first OKTOBER FEST: Friday 6th October 5.30pm - 10.00pm

A fantastic opportunity to sample award winning locally brewed beers and ciders with your sauerkraut and bratwurst at Monty's Brewery Visitor centre here in Montgomery. Find out more about Offa's Dyke National Trail and try Monty's Brewery 'Best Offa' special brew. Other local produce available. . Booking not required.

Saturday Supper and entertainment - Saturday 7th October from 7.00pm

Join us for a delicious supper (locally sourced ingredients wherever possible) in the Town Hall Assembly Rooms and enjoy the celebrated Guilsfield Singers in concert. Special half price tickets for those booking on walks of only £5.50 (must be booked at the same time as walks) . 

All proceeds to CPRW Montgomeryshire 'looking after your landscapes'. 

AND...  if you are in Montgomery on Saturday morning don't miss Offa's Veg - our wonderful, friendly and colourful fruit and vegetable market stall at the Town Hall where you may catch a local coffee morning and meet the Town Crier too.
