Walkers are Welcome Montgomery are delighted to unveil our programme for our 'Montgomery Walking Festival 2020' - 3rd & 4th October 2020.

COVID-19 and our Walks…


In light of the pandemic, our local Walkers are Welcome leaders have totally reviewed and revised our walking programme to take into account our Governments latest social distancing guidelines and we will continue to monitor and comply with all regulations pertaining during the 3rd & 4th October weekend.


This year all walks must be booked in advance and there will be a maximum group size of 15 walkers per planned walk ( plus walk guides and assistants ). Leaders will be prepared to take health precautions at gates and stiles and non-family groups will be asked to observe the distancing restrictions current at the time.


Please book your walks using our online booking form below. There is no charge for any of the walks but do please book early to reserve your place. If you need to cancel for any reason please let us know as we will hold a short ‘reserve’ list.





Walks for SATURDAY 3rd OCTOBER 2020

Challenge Walk

Saturday 3rd October 2020

18 miles, Start 08:00 (8am)

A very varied walk taking in the Vale of Montgomery, deeper valleys, some steepish climbs and moorland walking. There is no scrambling involved but there is one steep descent that needs care. The views throughout are wonderful and the pace allows them to be appreciated.

‘Lonely Church’ and Offa’s Dyke

Saturday 3rd October 2020

13 miles, Start 10:00 (10am)

A five minute bus ride to Chirbury then walk through beautiful valleys across to Long Mountain where we climb to a very unusual isolated ‘black and white’ church. Then descend with great views to the Welsh hills in the west, returning to Montgomery along Offa’s Dyke National Trail.

Offa’s Dyke Circular

Saturday 3rd October 2020

4 miles, Start 15:30 (3.30pm)

A ramble through lovely parkland followed by tranquil farmland paths and a section adjacent to Offa’s Dyke. The going is flat but you are surrounded by hills.

Walks for SUNDAY 4th OCTOBER 2020

Rolling Hills

Sunday 4th October 2020

12 miles, Start 10:00 (10am)

Discover the rolling hills to the west of Montgomery with superb views to hills across the breadth of Wales. The walk uses some newly opened stretches of paths and passes near to a vineyard at an altitude of nearly 300 metres. There are quite a lot of ‘ups and downs’ but nothing too difficult.


Staying in the Vale

Sunday 4th October 2020

8 miles, Start 11:00 (11am)

Experience the lovely views of hills all round whilst walking mostly on the flat through the Vale of Montgomery. The only thing that disturbs the tranquillity is the wildlife!

Heritage Walk

Sunday 4th October 2020

4 miles, Start 14:00 (2pm)

Visit the Iron Age fort, Montgomeryshire War Memorial high on a hill with spectacular views and the fascinating ambiance of Montgomery. The leader will keep you entertained with stories about them all. Some uphill walking.

'Pizza at the Pool' evening event - Sat 3rd October 2020

We invite you to our Walking Festival Supper which will be held this year at our scenic ‘WhiteGate Pool Nature reserve’ area just on the outskirts of our town – just a few hundred metres walk from our Town centre. 

We are planning ‘PIZZA at the POOL’ with wine and Monty’s Brewery beer on Saturday 3rd October evening from 17:30 (5.30pm). Our town’s ‘Monty Folk’ band should be on hand to provide lively musical entertainment. 

This will be a pay as you eat event with entry by free ticket. Please tick the events box on the Online form below if you would like to join us for a merry supper to round off your walk.  Numbers will be limited.’
