Visit to 'Hillview Hardy Plants' Nursery, May 2016

Montgomery Gardening Club invites a varied selection of speakers to their regular monthly meetings to give presentations on their specialist subjects. Last autumn we had a speaker from 'Hillview Hardy Plants' - a nursery near Bridgnorth Shropshire - who gave us an interesting presentation on 'Auriculas' - a wide range of varieties of the species Primula auricula.

We were invited to visit their nursery this spring and the club members travelled there on 9th May 2016.  On arrival we were treated to tea/coffee and a short refresher slide show and talk about 'Auriculas'.  There are over 5000 different registered variants available and the flowers are some of the most intriguing and beautiful that can be seen in a UK garden. The plants are not to everyone's taste, but on closer inspection the flowers are the stars!

We were encouraged to divide one of the mature auricula plants and repot the 8 or so small rooted offshoots - which we then took home as our free reward.  Many of us also purchased Auriculas and other plants from the nursery.

After the nursery tour, we were treated to tea/coffee and a selection of delicious cakes. A really lovely club visit to a supplier.

The nursery is open to visitors.. just call them before setting off.
