MEG Mini Hydro ECO Fair

Montgomery Energy Group (MEG) are planning a new Montgomery Town 'ECO Fair' event to take place in November 2017. As part of the ECO fair we will be using the water flowing over the small weir at Whitegate Pools to power a waterwheel and generate usable electricity. This will be used to power LED light displays around the pools and tree held lights to show just what can be achieved using the power from a small waterfall. See other posts for more details...

Well done to all who helped yestetday 🙂

MEG Litter pick day - 8th APRIL 2017
-------------------------------------------------
8 volunteer litter pickers from Montgomery spent 2 hours on Saturday 8th April 2017 in bright sunshine clearing litter from locations around the town and local walking routes. Bags, Holding Hoops, Litter picker sticks, gloves and hi-vis waistcoats were provided by 'Keep Wales Tidy'. Interestingly... most of the litter collected from the Castle area, lanes and slopes mainly consisted of quite old glass / plastic bottles and drinks tins.

This is good news as it shows that very little recent litter has been deposited and our visitors can now enjoy a litter free Montgomery visit, plus our townsfolk can have even more pride in our lovely location and town. MEG (Montgomery Energy Group) plan to repeat this exercise every few months as this will help keep our environment looking at its best in support of the town's 'Destination Montgomery' scheme.

Please share to help people understand why it's important to consider buying less but better quality clothing and not having to sheepishly follow the latest trends.

The average American throws away 82 pounds of clothes every single year. Here is the devastating toll "fast fashion" is taking on our planet:

Another group setting up a #RepairCafe in the North of England #PositiveNews

Does anyone have any skills they could offer to help with something like this?? I'd be happy to organise/advertise and coordinate a fortnightly/monthly 'fixing cafe' if we could have a bank of people to share their skills on the 'fixing' side of things.

I already have a couple of people who could offer bike repair sessions. Just need electronic/technological folk - and no reason why we couldn't think of any other things that we could also repair - eg, textiles/clothing.

If everyone paid a nominal contribution to have an item fixed, it could pay for room hire and people's time. As a society, we really need to think about repairing more and replacing less. Msg me if you'd be interested. Or tag someone who could be interested to help on the fixing side.

Llandrindod Repair Cafe

Just returned from MEG meeting, David Strachan described how Repair Cafe has become a success in Llandrindod Wells, now been running just over 2 years and they have done over 600 repairs

We've now just set up a subgroup to organise a repair cafe for Montgomery. Please get in touch anyone that would like to be part of this. David said we needed not just fixers, but also people to make tea (it's a social event too), people to do publicity, people to set up a children's area so parents can take part etc.

We look forward to tackling all Montgomery's broken things. Thank you David for coming to inspire us.

Run by Llandrindod Transition, repair cafes are fun social events where you can bring broken stuff and be shown how to mend it by skilled volunteers.

Streetbank - Sharing in your Neighbourhood

Could we get lots of people in Monty sharing their stuff with other people? I've just signed up to streetbank, now to list all my stuff. I've got lots of tools and garden equipment I'd be happy to share with others.

Streetbank puts you in touch with your community, bringing neighbourboods closer and making the world a bit nicer. See members living within one mile, make requests on the community noticeboard, lend items, give away unwanted stuff and ask for help.
