MEG – Hydro ECO fair

MEG - ECO Autumn Fair

MEG are developing a small hydro electricity generator that will be installed at Whitegate Pools in Montgomery for an ECO fair in November 2017.  The Electricity generated will be used to power a selection of water illuminations and LED tree light displays alongside other displays. We hope to involve local Scouts, School and other groups to play an active role in our ECO fair.

PRIME TIME !!!
============
The MEG Hydro overshoot waterwheel is now primed and undercoated ready for its final coat. Also shown are the heavy duty roller bearings that will securely support it in place.... plus my essential lubrication shot too 🙂 See it displayed at the MEG stand at the Montgomery August Show later this month on 19th August.

MEG Hydro - Phase 2 - Internal Fins
============================
The 12off internal fins that form the innermost water chambers are now fitted ready to have their edges sealed using fibreglass ribbon and resin. Outer fins will be added later to complete each chamber and allow us to maximise the retention of water during its downward fall - thereby getting the most power we can from it's descent. The ply inner chambers will now get several coats of Yacht varnish to protect them from the water when in use. The waterwheel is intended to only be used for 1 or 2 weeks each year at our MEG ECO Fair at Whitegates pool here in Montgomery so should last many years if stored in a dry place when not being used.

Waterwheel progress - Part 1
========================
The 1 metre diameter discs that form the sides of the waterwheel are now cutout and formed from 12mm marine ply and the central 'core' strengthener wood forms have been fitted. The layout for the waterwheel 'fins' can be seen marked out and drilled ready for the next phase - fitting the fins to join the 2 sides together in a large 'cotton spool' bobbin configuration.

Montgomery Energy Group - MEG

Montgomery Energy Group (MEG) are planning a new Montgomery Town 'ECO Fair' event to take place in November 2017. As part of the ECO fair we will be using the water flowing over the small weir at Whitegate Pools to power a waterwheel and generate usable electricity. This will be used to power LED light displays around the pools and tree held lights to show just what can be achieved using the power from a small waterfall. See other posts for more details...
