Some of the best food and drink produce from around the Montgomery area
Pam and Russ Honeyman began brewing beer in January 2009. It was only the third brew before Monty’s Sunshine started to get the recognition it still enjoys today, winning the “Darlington Spring Thing CAMRA Beer Festival”. Now with over sixteen regular, seasonal and specials brews and four local pubs, Monty’s has firmly established itself as Mid Wales’ premier brewery. Bottling has become an integral part of the production process, and in January 2013 a new bottling plant was installed. 2014 saw the introduction of Masquerade, a gluten free beer which won Monty’s its first international award.
Combine all of this with a developing export business and exciting plans for expansion, Monty’s continues to be a fantastic success story for Mid Wales.
You can buy bottles of Monty’s beer in the Montgomery Spar and Charlies Stores at Coed y Dinas, Welshpool. Better still, many of the local pubs and hotels serve Monty’s on tap, not forgetting the new Monty’s Brewery Visitor Centre in Montgomery.
Wagyu, also known as Kobe beef is renowned for its superior eating qualities. Its unique taste and texture is due to the superior marbling within the meat.
Ifor’s Welsh Wagyu are reared on clover rich pastures before finishing on a grass or hay and blended grain ration. And yes, I do feed them Monty’s beer daily and give an occasional massage!
The mono-unsaturated to saturated fat ratio is higher in Wagyu than in other beef. Wagyu is also higher in a type of fatty acid called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). This has been shown to have potent anti-carcinogenic properties, as well as being an anti inflammatory agent. Research also suggests that feeding grass increases the CLA content of all beef. Grass fed Wagyu – Healthier for us all! As we say in Wales, Iechyd da – Good health!
