Discover Montgomery

Montgomery nestles in a welsh valley just over the England / Wales border and is around 10 miles from Bishops Castle – an easy 30 minutes drive.  It is a compact, heritage protected county town of Montgomeryshire, surrounded by 3 main hills that can be climbed by steady walks from the Town hall in around 30 minutes all having a unique character.

Discover St.Nicholas Church, Montgomery, Wales

The lowest, and nearest hill has our St. Nicholas church atop which is just a few minutes walk from the town hall.  The church is well worth a visit and was built to service Montgomery residents and the town that formed to service the needs of the castle, it’s owners and soldiers based nearby.  Walking the pathway around the church makes for a great introduction to our wonderful town and Montgomery Vale. The view down over the town stretches out across the surrounding hill to the Castle nestling in woodland trees, nicely silhouetted against the sky. The panoramic view then continues out across the Severn valley to Welshpool and out towards Oswestry, across Long Mountain in the distance and the shallow valley leading out to Shrewsbury, England and beyond.
